Subject: Imposing Excessive Regulations within the Chemical Industry via the "PFAS Action Act"
Description: The PFAS Action Act of 2021, sponsored by Rep. Dingell (D-MI), places overreaching regulations on chemical compounds that are used in thousands of consumer products including cookware, food packaging and firefighting. Specifically, the bill designates two PFAS compounds (PFOA and PFOS) as "hazardous substances" and directs the EPA to potentially designate over 7,800 other PFAS compounds as hazardous. ACU believes government action should be based on sound scientific data that demonstrate a legitimate risk to public health and safety, and opposes this bill's hasty and heavy-handed regulations that ultimately enrich plaintiffs' attorneys.
