Date: September 16, 1976
Subject: Antitrust Actions
Description: Rodino (D-NJ) motion to agree to the Senate amendments, thus clearing the bill. The bill would allow state Attorneys General to file class action suits on behalf of private citizens against businesses in alleged violation of antitrust laws. This would increase unjustified harrassment of business by public interest groups, force expensive and unrealistic triple-damages for violations, and encourage de facto blackmail of corporations to settle out of court regardless of merits.
Result: Agreed to, 242-138
